MOTORCYCLES,
HOLIDAYS AND TOURING IN BRITTANY, FRANCE
Roger
and Linda offer a choice of three holiday cottages, stone
house (sleeps 2 to 6 people), the wooden
house (sleeps 2 to 5 people), and the wood
cabin (sleeps 2) situated in the heart of rural Brittany, a
location of beauty, peace and seclusion.
It is an ideal base from which
to explore Brittany, a rich and diverse heritage to be discovered,
from the monolithic stones of Carnac to the submarine pens of St
Nazaire, the rugged coastline of the north to the foam crested waves
and endless sandy beaches of the south. Peace, tranquillity and
clean air, commodities difficult to find in an ever stressful world,
all can be found here in abundance.
A
countryside where an unpolluted night sky is pierced by a panoply
of twinkling stars. Experience the luxury of the open roads whether
by motorcycle, car, bike or simply walk along the many bridle ways
and footpaths.
Stop along the way and sample
the delights of the famous Breton seafood platters or try the mouth
watering traditional Breton crepes washed down with a glass of refreshing
cider. Bikers, Burlaouen and Brittany offer a formidable combination.
Hidden away at the end of a lane amid 20 acres of woods, fields,
stream and a pretty wildlife lake, can be found the holiday cottages
and house of Roger and Linda.
There
is no through traffic or passing cars to disturb the peace and you
will be serenaded to sleep at night by the sound of the wind in
the trees, the hoot of an owl or the bark of a fox.
However, should you seek good
cheer and gregarious company, then look no further than "Anzas"
bar close by in the village of Lanrivain, a brisk walk of 3 kilometres.
There you will find a traditional Breton bar selling local Breton
beer brewed in the locality - a visit to the brewery can be arranged.
Enjoy the best of French cuisine in the nearby restaurant of "The
Pellinec" or sample a traditional "routier" lunchtime meal offering
simple wholesome food served to you at the bar "Laruen Goz" in Lanrivain.
After
lunch take a trip to the "Toul Goulic" situated close to Lanrivain
and explore this mysterious hidden valley where a nascent river
tumbles through boulders, the size of houses, disappears and reappears
as it cascades down to the valley bottom. Should you feel a little
more adventurous then, a short distance from the Toul Goulic is
the lake at Tremagat where for a modest sum in the holiday season,
you can hire kayaks, sail boards or canoes.
A pleasant 25min ride will
take you to the inland resort area of the Lac De Guerledan, a huge
lake where all manner of water sports can be found from peddaloes
to water skiing. A little further a field - a 50min ride will take
you to the north Brittany coast.
At Plouha you
can follow the paths of the resistance as they smuggled allied airmen
back to the coast passing through a tunnel in the cliffs to the
hidden cove of the "plage de Bonapart". It was from here they were
rescued and ferried back to England and freedom. Carry on along
the coast and visit the ruin of "abbey de Beauport".
Then on to the port of Paimpol
where the cod fishing sailing boats used to leave for their long
and arduous journey to the Icelandic fishing grounds. Finish the
day by watching the sun as it sets low over bays and islands, across
a sea stretching all the way to America.
Brittany is
a land steeped in culture, mystery and passion. A land where space
and peace can still be found, where the traditional music of the
"Fest Noz" will excite the most dormant of souls. Where you can
touch the ancient "menhirs" and connect with a time that was before
time.
We offer guided tours to any
of the above and much much more. Tours vary from a few hours to
a full day and can be arranged with a little prior notice. They
are led by a fluent English / French speaker who has lived in the
area for the last 25 years.
We
can also provide a typical Breton "crepe" (pancake) evening or a
BBQ. We have plenty of covered bike space and a workshop that can
cope with most things.
There is an abundance of wildlife
in the area ranging from red squirrels to pine martins to wild boar
and deer and if you are very lucky you might see an otter passing
through the lake. Overlooking the little lake is a cabin perched
on stilts from where you can sit, relax and maybe catch a glimpse
of flashing cobalt blue as a kingfisher skims the water seeking
its prey.
Welcome to Brittany
and to chez Roger and Linda.
